(1) QUE
PASA CON JOSIE SINCE OCTOBER?
OCTOBER
10: Long
Beach, CA: My birthday celebration at Tikal's was so memorable for
me! Thank you to all who came to celebrate it with me and to all that gave
me such beautiful gifts and cards. It almost made me forget about
getting one year older!
OCTOBER
13,14,15: Laughlin,
NV: The Salsa Masters' Workshop.
3 Days of fun workshops and dancing in Laughlin Nevada was a huge success.
The instructors were all great and we laughed a lot on the bus rides to and from
Nevada. Except for the minor concussion Alvaro & Josie got from their fall
during the impromptu performance on the slippery floor, the performances by the
other instructors and teams were exciting and fabulous. Cheryl did an
amazing job organizing and running this mega salsa extravaganza. We won a
few dollars at the Black Jack tables to top off the weekend!
OCTOBER
21: Long
Beach, CA: Salsa Workshop @ The Dance Factory with Josie Neglia, Louie
Angon and special guest teacher Joe Cassini with an introduction to Mambo on
"2". The students were great and walked away with some great new
skills. Josie and the students had a blast learning footwork from Joe
Cassini.
OCTOBER
28: Amsterdam:
Alvaro and Josie taught workshops and performed at Marlon and Annettje's Mini
Salsa festival. The students were surprisingly high level dancers and
picked up all the moves from the visiting instructors. See Daily
Trip Report for details.
OCTOBER
30-31: Rotterdam
and The Hague, Holland: Josie and Alvaro taught Los Angeles style salsa and Ladies'
and Men's Styling to the salsa instructors and students at Bidjai's Salseros
Dance Studios. The instructors were so much fun to work with and we
enjoyed a night out on the town of wild Amsterdam afterwards. See Daily
Trip Report for details.
NOVEMBER
18-19: Vancouver,
Canada: Nestor invited Josie and Alvaro to teach Salsa to the Canadian Salseros
of Vancouver for this fun two-day workshop. We taught 5 hours of salsa technique
and exciting moves at At
The Legion, 2205 Commercial Drive.
The Vancouver
students were incredible at picking up material. We were warmed by their
eagerness and friendly hospitality. Alvaro and I also performed at The
Rage, Plaza of Nations
along with other brilliant Latin Dance performers. Congratulations to
Nestor for his successful and well organized Salsa Event. Visit Nestor's
web site at www.LatinDanceTeachers.com.
DECEMBER
2: Long
Beach, CA: AIDS Benefit at The Padua House (AIDS Hospice in Long Beach).
Josie and Alvaro performed a salsa dance show for their Christmas Party and it
was a joyous night filled with magic shows, raffle contests and delicious food.
It was also a great moment to remember Peta Siddall, Josie's late dance partner
who died of AIDS April 26,1999.

TIP
AND QUOTE OF THE MONTH & DID YOU KNOW..?
TIP:
As the music gets faster, stay more relaxed!!!!!!
One
of the hardest things to do when the music gets faster is to maintain a great
connection to your partner and maintain control after turns. I found after
many years of trial and error that the more I can let all my muscles relax while
maintaining the speed of the music, the more body action I was able to do, and
the more balance and connection I had. I was also much faster when I went
for multiple turns. If I was tense or my partner strongly threw me into a
turn, I would fall off balance and look slow and heavy. The more relaxed I
stayed, the lighter and faster and more agile I danced. --
Josie
Neglia, Professional dancer
QUOTE:
When someone blunders, we say that he
makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that All the ills of
mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our
history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders
have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. -- Moliere, 1622
DID YOU KNOW: MISTLETOE
Mistletoe was associated with peace
and friendship in ancient Scandinavia. In the time of the Druids, mistletoe was
believed to have magical properties. People who met under a tree bearing
mistletoe were forbidden to fight, even if they were enemies, and anyone who
entered a home decorated with mistletoe was entitled to shelter and protection.

(10) MESSAGE
TO PETA SIDDALL
I realize that
this poem says it all:
Reason,
Season or Lifetime
- Author Unknown
People come into
your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need
you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a
difficulty, to provide you with the guidance and support, to aid you physically,
emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They
are there for a reason, you need them to be. Then at some point this person will
say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or act out force you to take a
stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled.
Their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time
to move on.
When people come
into your life for a season, it's because it's time to share, grow, or
learn. They may bring you peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something
you have never done before. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But only for a season!
Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons: those things you must
build on to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person/people (any way) and put what you have learned to use in all
other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being
part of my life.
-- Josie
