" Advanced Salsa Combinations 1 & 2 "

Josie Neglia, the Princess of Salsa, is certainly one of the most well known Salseras and teachers in the world. She was one of the first to come out with Salsa instructional videos, and they were the first Salsa videos that I ever saw.

Josie is back with a new set of videos on Advanced Salsa combinations with her new dance partner Alvaro Coronel. They were filmed after returning from a recent world tour.

The first video deals entirely with partner combinations. We get 11 combinations, each having from 3 to 5 separate moves. The video is a great entry into Advanced level dancing, as most of the moves used will be familiar to high intermediate level dancers, yet each combination contains elements which will kick these moves into OVERDRIVE, letting
you know you’ve entered the next level of difficulty. Both the lady and the man get a workout here, making these combinations a hit for both
partners.

I found the pace excellent, the best of any of her videos. Both Josie and Alvaro describe everything they do on every beat, and at a pace slow enough to allow you to practice along without having to constantly hit the rewind button. The image clarity is the best I’ve seen on any video; the moves pop out at you and are crystal clear to follow.

The second video is a mix of partner combinations and tricks. There are 5 more combinations shown and 12 Advanced level tricks, which include lifts, jumps, and drops. All of the tricks shown are different than on her other Advanced level video with Rogelio Moreno, so don’t worry about duplication between the videos. Even the guys get to do a few tricks.

I really appreciated the fact that they chose to include key details such as when Alvaro points out where the man’s weight needs to be during the Sit N Spin, or when Josie reminds the ladies to only kick one leg at a time and the other one will follow, during the flips. These are the kinds of details one cannot get by just using the rewind button when the step is not working.

As to my buying recommendation I will say this: the 1st video is a great video to put some extra spice in your combinations and although it is meant for Advanced level dancers, everything is explained so carefully that dancers of all levels will gain something from this video.

If you’re hungry to start learning those Advanced level flips and tricks then “ leap “ into the 2nd video, but take the appropriate safety precautions and find a partner who’s not shy.

If you’re not interested in tricks then you’ll have to decide whether to buy the 2nd video for the 5 combinations presented, as they are not any more advanced than the ones shown on the 1st video, just different.

There’s no reason not to get both as a set.
